Narcissa

COMPOSER: Evan Fein
SINGER: mezzo
SCORE: piano
LENGTH: 1 Act/45M

The improbable career of a seriously delusional mezzo who cannot carry a tune in a bucket. A one-woman, operatic pastiche.

Deftly spicing truth with fiction, mezzo Narcissa Candler carves out a stellar career of operatic léger de main. That she cannot sing never slows her down. Equally entertaining is her unconventional love life. Along the way we are treated to glorious songs and arias by everyone from Mozart, Verdi, and Glück to Gershwin, Kurt Weill, and Gilbert and Sullivan, plus original Fein-Andersons. Loosely based on the life of Florence Foster Jenkins.

HISTORY: Commissioned by the Opéra de Poche in 2015, Narcissa premièred in Moulins and La Trinité-sur-Mer, France, in July 2017. The opera has been performed twice.
